Journey to the sunset

There are times in one's life when they are given opportunities. The real answer lies in how risky one is willing to be in order to follow the heart. It is a tricky thing, but one may find that the more risky, the more fun life can become. I have made the trek across the country, after a year stint in Jacksonville beach. My adventures in Jacksonville were wonderful, and worth every minute of being there. There are moments in one's life where split second decisions are made that could change one's life forever, and on September 25th I made one that I will never forget. I was invited to a Pub Run with a local running group, and I decided to run in it at the last minute. My friends and I thought it was a costume themed run, and decided to dress in our outrageous 80s aerobics outfits from Halloween. Unfortunately, for us, it was, in fact, not a themed run. Fate has a funny way of showing up, and there just so happened to be another group of people dressed up as well, and we bonded immediately. Patrick and I have been pretty close ever since, and without actually meaning to at all, I have been hit over the head with a bad case of love. He is an officer in the Navy, and flies the helicopters that slowly hover over the ocean and track submarines, just in case Russia plans an extra sneaky attack. It is not often one finds someone that understands so much about them after such a short time. I have not dated much, because I have found the solo road to be very satisfying, and I am deeply content with my independence, that is why deciding to leave everything on the east coast, and follow a man to the west coast, was somewhat out of character for me. However, I did not view any of this decision as a sacrifice, more as an adventure that I had to partake in. On May 9th 2010, we packed his beat up Ford Explorer, and made the journey from one end of the United States to the other. What an adventure we had! We drank and danced on bourbon street, we ate a romantic dinner on the riverwalk in San Antonio, we camped out in Arizona, and we at dinner on a snow capped mountain while the sunset. Once we arrived safely in San Diego, California, I felt at home immediately.
The first weekend I moved here was July 4th, and we hopped in the car and drove up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend. It was an incredible place, with beautiful sights, wonderful food, friendly people, and lots of outdoors adventures to be had. One of Patrick's friends in the Navy decided that it would be a wonderful idea to run up to the top of one of the highest mountains. Through snow, rocks, very steep slopes, and after a torturous case of oxygen depletion, we made it to the top. It was the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. If I had not thought we had had enough of an adventure, I was to be corrected. In order to get back down the mountain, we had to take the fastest, and may I add, the most scary route, which was bottom sliding down the very steep mountain on the snow. I cried, screamed, and laughed the whole way down. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life, aside from the gigantic bruise on my bum.
Now that San Diego is now considered home for me, it has been rough goings pinning down a job. However, after much persistence, and many hours of searching, I have three promising interviews next week. Once again, I have no idea what lies next, but I am so very excited where it will lead me next!

Leaving Nothing Undone

Life is such a roller coaster ride, and if you are not willing to let go and enjoy the ride you can miss all the thrills that come with it. Although my experience in Jacksonville Beach has been short, I feel like I have already experienced so very many changes. I have met many different people, gone too many different parties, made many different mistakes, slept in many different places, and have made it to this point thus far with a very open minded and interesting perspective on life. The road to finding who you are is one that requires much experimenting, and more than a little living outside the box. There was a recent event that has really affected my perspective and view of life. My sister's father in law who I was very close to passed away very unexpectedly. His funeral was incredible. I have never seen so many people arrive for someone's passing, and there were multiple parties throughout the weekend, complete with a guiness keg (just the way he would have loved it). People described him, told stories about him, and remembered all of the amazing and huge feats that were accomplished in his life. I have never known anyone that lived like him. He volunteered, wrote notes, gave gifts, gave time, gave his heart, drank alot of wine, laughed alot, kissed everyone (guys included) on the mouth, prayed alot, hugged his wife, travelled alot, ran alot, coached, taught, and left a very huge mark on an entire town. Honestly, you mention his name to almost every other person here and more times than not you will find that they have either heard of him or been affected by him in some way. He is my inspiration for continuing OceanFit, which has had to be placed on hold due to my new job at TruFit Personal Training Studio at the beach. Dan Brown is his name and this post is in honor of him, who had planned to come and take my class on the beach the day he passed away. This weekend I will be riding the MS 150, a ride that starts in St. Augustine, goes to Daytona and back in two days. Dan participated in it more than a few times, and I will ride it this weekend in his honor. In his death, he taught me to live every moment as if it were my last, because that is exactly what he did, and viewing his life, not many people could say that he left anything undone when he was taken from this world. What an incredible thought, and one that will dictate all of my future endeavors. May God bless his family and enjoy his company in heaven!
